Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!
It's Halloween again and in this house, we're all getting stoopid over
costumes, carnivals
and free candy. Something about working for those morsels makes the treat that much
better, huh? Watching little legs whip though the neighborhood, dragging brooms, hats and
huge plastic pumpkins for collecting candy melts my heart. I love kids ... and I love
the magic of Halloween!
Hey, remember they work hard for those treats! None of this mini-sized, hard candy stuff!
They want
chocolate! And what's with the
raisins? To quote my younger
daughter, Liberty, when she was not-quite-5:
Liberty: "That lady was really mean!"
Me: "Why do you say that honey?"
Liberty: "Cuz' she gave us raisins!"
Yep, it's true. You score no points whatsoever with the over three crowd when you hand out the
dreaded box of raisins. Oh paleasssse ... I don't want to hear the righteous,
cavity-patrol squawking:
"But candy rots their teeth!"
We know candy rots their
teeth! That's why the powers that be invented toothpaste. Halloween is supposed to be
FUN. Get off your broom and hand out something the little munchkins will remember you
kindly for. Hey, consider this ... when they're teenagers and stalking the neighborhood in
the wee hours of summer vacation, they'll remember you gave 'em the good
stuff, not the raisins!
Have a great Halloween, enjoy playing flash light tag-a-long and please
light
up and glow your kids for safety.
If you don't have little ones to light the way for, be a good sport, decorate your house and yard, wear a cool Halloween shirt or adult costume, stick a funny Halloween pacifier in baby's mouth and hand out goodies. You'll feel better about yourself in the morning, I promise. :-)
