"Read your topic about school over placement last month and was so happy to find this information! My son will be 5 in late September this year and I have been torn between putting him in kindergarten or keeping him home one more year. I think I will keep him home! I just don't think he is ready to handle the structure and discipline of school and I'm grateful to realize I don't have to send him this year and he'll have another year to develop the social and emotional skills to make sure his school experience doesn't start off on the wrong foot! You've helped me make up my mind and I thank you!"

Amanda, school over-placement is an important issue that I wish was more understood and discussed. I'm sure by the time your son starts school next year, he'll have the skills to embrace learning and socializing!

Parenting & Family Topic of the Month: Test Anxiety

This month, we have another excellent article from child and family therapist, Kent Toussaint, on helping children through test anxiety:

It is important for kids to experience a healthy amount of anxiety as it prepares them to face more difficult challenges in adulthood. However, your test-terrorized teen may need some additional guidance from you to manage his overpowering nerves.

Tip or Trick of the Month: Flea Removal

If your dog or cat has fleas, try adding a few drops of Dawn dish washing detergent to your pet's shampoo. Rinse your pet especially well after washing to avoid skin irritation. I haven't tried this as my pets don't go outside much and don't have fleas. Please let me know if this works for you!
