--- Welcome all newcomers and faithful readers!
How'd everyone get through September and the first month of a new grade for our
kids? Hope they're settled and happy in their new classes.
My baby, Liberty, is coming home today for good.
Her sister and I are happy, relieved to have her home where she belongs and with
us again. It's been a long year without her. Now life can resume as intended.
:-)
And it's October! Geesh, are we all ready for Halloween yet? I'm certainly not.
Good thing I don't have little ones to plan for or I'd be scrambling about now.
:-) For those with munchkins still in the house, please get their Halloween
celebration organized ASAP. It's big doings to them. Especially important is
having their costume bought or ordered in the next few days to avoid last minute
crazies. Everything you'll need to make life easier this month is on my
Halloween site: Rexanne's

Parenting & Family Topic of the Month:
Discipline or
Punishment?
There's no question that children need discipline - in the form of guidance to
teach them life's rules, how to behave an how to get along with others.
It is my belief that discipline needs to be taught with kindness and compassion.
Punitive discipline has always struck me as mean-spirited. I find it more a way
for parents and care givers to exercise control and serve up a platter of hurt
than an effective discipline strategy.
From an early age, children will respond to how they're treated. If they are
treated with kindness, compassion and loving guidance, they will learn to treat
others in the same manner. If a child is punished harshly for something they
don't yet understand, they will learn that cruelty and harshness are the way to
have their needs met.
The difference in kindly guiding our children and harshly punishing them can be
explained by imagining this scenario:

Oh boy - I went crazy when I saw this new great gadget and knew I had to turn
you all onto one of the best organizational devices I've seen in years.
The Smart Shopper is an ingenious shopping list device that you will use daily.
Simply speak the item you need into the little box that mounts easily on your
fridge or anywhere in your kitchen or home and it will include the item in your
next shopping list that can be printed out right from the Smart Shopper device.
How cool is this? I could have used this all my adult life. LOL - Smart Shopper
makes it easy for all family members to remember to let you know when they've
used the last of the toilet paper in the guest bathroom, too. :-)

Tip or Trick of the Month: Repel Flies
Rexanna sent this clever and evidently useful tip:
To repel flies, tack or tape a zipper baggie half filled with water and a few
pennies to the doorway. Flies seem to avoid this concoction like poison and many
people swear by this trick.
