WELCOME ALL NEWCOMERS!

Hey, I have reached "celebrity" status! Now have my own pages, including a CHAT room, on Celebrity Know How. Yep, I am one of the resident "celebrities" who "knows how!" LOL! Oh dear ... Cracks me up, actually. Sure, I'm a celebrity in my own mind but this is so mind-boggling. Oh, in all honesty, I love it! Modesty has never been one of my virtues anyway! Please come visit at my new palatial digs: Rexanne's Celebrity Know How Page

One day in the near future, I will be sending out an invitation ONLY to my newsletter subscribers to participate in a Rexanne's Web Review chat. Too fun! Can't wait to *meet* all of you in there! Details will be forthcoming so stay tuned ...

Have a strange experience to share with you ... Just unsubscribed a reader who wasn't too happy about the fact that I didn't want to publish her stuff in my newsletter. Dear readers, please know that I will always give you a voice in this newsletter, whether you agree with me or not. But to publish or not to publish one particular comment or entry is at my sole discretion. NOT because I want to "control" the content of my newsletter, even though as the editor I suppose I do have that responsibility. I add comments and reader entries that I feel my other readers will enjoy, relate to or to bring a differing opinion to light. I can't include everything I receive or this newsletter would be huge. Unfortunately, the reader who I unsubscribed wrote me a comment I WISH I had the nerve to print in this issue! LOL! It was amazing in it's vulgarity and shocking in it's intent. Use your imagination ... All I can say is, the world is made up of people who are polite and people who are not. I choose to remain polite. And please, keep sending in comments, tips and email! I truly love it and wouldn't want to put this newsletter together without your input.

OK, here's the scoop:

Parenting & Family Topic of  the Week: Kids & Pets

Kids and Pets
By Rexanne Mancini

We're cat people here at casa Rexanne, mainly because we are condo-bound and can't have dogs. We'd have cats AND dogs if we could. Probably be the house the neighbors would report weekly, complaining about all the strays! Yeah, we're softies for all animals here. For now, we have a wonderful tabby named Holiday, a present from Santa for my younger daughter. She is loved more than most humans. We are about to adopt another kitty for my older daughter's birthday. As Santa knows and we all should take into consideration, pets should be brought home a week or two before or after the festivities. Gives the sweetie time to adapt and feel comfortable before springing insanity on it!

Dogs seem to be the ultimate kid pet. Maybe because dogs are more affectionate, love a good romp and will accept a lot more ear tugging and bear hugs than any cat on a good day. Cats tend to regard boisterous activity with major disdain. Someone once said: "Dogs have owners, cats have staff." How true!

Having and caring for pets is a wonderful way to teach children respect for all our fellow creatures. They can help with lessons in responsibility, nurturing and life. Pets are also the ultimate friend when a child is having a bad day or having trouble being accepted for who they are among their peers. A loyal pet will always bring comfort, love and joy to a home.

By all means, ask the advice of a veterinarian about the right pet for your family. And please remember that the world is overrun with stray animals. Spay and neuter your pets. If possible, adopt a doomed animal from a shelter or through a pet adoption. They are the most loyal, loving pets you could hope for and you'll always feel the personal satisfaction of having rescued your lovie.

There are many good and wonderful web sites dealing with pets. This first site will help you make choices about which pet is right for you and your family. Fill out the questionnaire, submit your answers and they'll do the rest of the work. In a matter of minutes, you'll have a list of the ideal pet for your family. Two suggestions on my list were ants and pot bellied pigs! Geesh ... Pet Selector

Here is a super article, written by a priceless pup, Liberty, about adopting pets. A must-read for anyone thinking about bringing a puppy home. This article will explain, in common dog sense, why it's sometimes better to adopt an older pet for your family: Puppies Are Cute But ...

This next link will take you to the American Veterinarian Medical Association home page. Everything you need to know about life with your pets and caring for them: AVMA Pet Care

And a hilarious page, designed to convince you that cats are really from Mars:  Cats are from Mars

Kid's Site of the Week: Catstuff

Kids and adults will love this wonderfully cat-obsessed site! Tons of fun games, all revolving around darling felines. There's a fun break- out game where you can uncover the kitties lurking behind the bricks, kitty jigsaw and slider puzzles, cat word searches, connect-the-dots, great online coloring with pictures of ... you guessed it ... cats ... kitty concentration (match up), a cute Victorian dress up game and there's even a game for kitty!

Catstuff is a very clever and fun site for kids. Go ahead ... give up the computer for an hour or so ... ;-) Then come back and play in here yourself!

TIP OR TRICK OF THE WEEK:
"Managing Leftovers"

*Start a leftover list and post it on the refrigerator. A reminder of what is in the refrigerator will help you think of creative ways to use the leftovers. And, the leftover list becomes a menu for snackers to choose from.

*One good way to use leftovers is to try to include as many as possible in your meal plans. Planning leftovers might include preparing extra vegetables from Saturday's meal for Monday's stew. It will make preparing Monday's meal much easier and save on cooking and cleanup time.

*Leftover hot dog buns make good bread sticks or croutons. Simply butter them, season them with a little garlic powder and Parmesan cheese, and toast them in the oven.

*Leftover roast beef or ham can be ground and mixed with other ingredients to create a sandwich spread.

*Leftover waffles can be wrapped individually and frozen. When you want to eat them, pop them in the toaster.

*Keep leftover cookies softer longer by putting two slices of bread in your cookie jar.

*Chicken or turkey can be used in chicken or macaroni salad. Another good dish for leftover is a pasta topping made of chicken, cream of mushroom soup, Parmesan cheese, with pepper and oregano. Simply serve over spaghetti or egg noodles.

*Leftover ham adds to scalloped potato casserole or potato salad.

*Leftover bread can be ground into bread crumbs and used for meatballs.

Found these nifty tips for leftovers in Mommiemail this week. Mommiemail is a wonderful newsletter with members who share their stories, coupons and tips! They also have a web site, Mommy World. For subscription information or to browse the pages, head on over to: Mommy World Tell them Rexanne sent you!

Featured Home Page of the Week: More Whipped Cream

OK, this is my wish for all of you! ;-) Author Virginia Ellis touched my soul, with visions of the kind of friend we would all love to have or be in this darling poem about a remarkable woman. One who urges you to enjoy life to its fullest and to add that extra dollop of whipped cream! You know I would! LOL! Guess that explains the extra roll around my midsection, huh? ;-)

More Whipped Cream is inspiration at it's finest. Virginia Ellis has written many more beautiful poems that are featured on this site. You can find them by clicking on the link at the very bottom of the page that will take you to "Ginny's Main Page." Enjoy!
