Welcome all newcomers!
Well, well ... seems we have more than one "SPAM Queen" in our family!
LOL! Soooo many responses to Jan's request for SPAM info! Thank you to
all who sent in links, recipes, graphics and more SPAM stories! You're
all wonderful! Anyone else want SPAM links? Let me know ... I now have
pages full!
Hey, I have a brand new computer! :-) Happy and CRAZED all at the same time! LOL! Geesh ... it's like learning the basics all over again. Not to mention the constant lament: "Where did (pick one) go?!" I know at least one of you out there is going through this same hell. I empathize, Mert. Mert ... Mert! Are you still there? ;-)
One final and very important note: My sincerest apologies to author Judith Tramayne-Barth. Last week's newsletter featured her online book, "How to Love Your Teenager ... in Spite of Themselves," in the parenting links of the week. I, in my computer-itis glory, gave her screen name as her last name! LOL! Oy ... Judith, forgive me?
OK, here's the scoop:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Quote of the Week:
"Education begins at home. You can't blame the school for not putting
into your child what you don't put into him." (Geoffrey Holder)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Parenting and Family Link(s) of the Week:
Well, can we do ME a favor this week and pick "sibling rivalry" as our topic?! LOL! We have a second child partly to keep the first and "only" child company, then they get older and start acting like they hate each other. I don't know about you all, but it drives me crazy. My two girls will bicker about anything and everything. There I am, begging them to please just "love each other ... " LOL! Oh yeah ... like that's gonna help! The more research I do on the subject, the more I'm finding that it's perfectly normal, almost a necessary transition into responsible adulthood. Geesh ... another 6 or so years of this? OMG ...
Here's my take on sibling rivalry: Besides learning to share, kids need to find ways to blame someone other than themselves for their own problems and shortcomings. Until they figure out that it doesn't help to lay the blame on others, they lash out at the people closest to them. At least now my daughters don't try to blame ME for their angst anymore! Guess they learned I wouldn't buy into it no matter how hard they tried. They became each other's whipping post, so to speak.
OK, it's here to stay for most of us. Let's find out how to deal with it, shall we? ;-)
This first site looks at the causes, consequences, and solutions to the many social, psychological, and family problems brought about by sibling rivalry. The information here is in-depth and quite interesting, including information on "family issues" and ancient philosophies to explain this age-old problem: Sibling Rivalry
Here's an article with good, practical advice for diffusing our children's anger toward each other: Coping With Sibling Rivalry
This next link is to an article on sibling fights and basic strategies to keep kids from developing problematic patterns: Sibling Fights
Thankfully, I know sibling rivalry will go away when my girls are old
enough to appreciate each other. At least I hope so!

Food & Cooking Site of the Week:
FoodGeeks is wonderful! With more than 5,000 recipes to peruse, you can create your own online cookbook. They'll even store it for you! How's that for service? ;-) Submit a recipe and it will automatically be entered into "your" cookbook. Pick your favorites from their huge collection to create the ultimate just-your-speed cookbook. Recipes are categorized, then subcategorized to easily locate exactly what you are looking for.
Another nifty feature at Foodgeeks is their ingredient search ... enter whatever you happen to have in the fridge or pantry and their super search engine will spit out a recipe for it. This is cyberspace at it's finest guys. Take advantage of life as we now know it. ;-)
Bon Apetit!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kid's Site of the Week:
Meet Foxx ... the cutest little ferret on the Internet! Read about how Foxx was rescued from a life of sadness and fear by his family on the "Pet Shop Blues" page. Warning: I cried as I read this! But I cry at television commercials so you might NOT but it is a heartwarming and touching page!
There are fun games here too, for kids from 3 to 100. Some are a bit
challenging ... I STILL haven't mastered the AllLights game! There's a
nifty online Tetris-style time waster, too! ;-) Have fun with Foxx!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tip or Trick of the Week:
"Wet Yer Hands!"
This tip has been around for a while but I think it's worth adding
here. Some people might just not realize the importance of wet hands!
:-)
When forming meatballs, keep a trickle of cold water running in the
sink. After every other meatball, wet the palms of your hands. This
will keep the meat from sticking to your palms and make rolling those
little suckers into a true round shape easier. This tip works great for
crispy rice treats, too. When patting the sticky goo into the pan, wet
hands will keep it there instead of all over the kitchen.
I imagine there are countless other foods this will work with. Anything sticky doesn't stick to wet hands!

send it here for possible publication in one of the next issues:

Freebie of the Week:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Weekly Time Waster:
Because life is supposed to be fun!
Hold on to your sides ... they could end up splitting in here! Acrophobia is my favorite online time waster. The object of this popular word game is to make a sentence, using a given acronym, in one minute or so. OK, so anyone can come up with a sentence ... the object here is to rank highest in points for the cleverest, funniest or most amusing "acro." You'll be playing with a group of other acrophobes so the competition for points is fierce! I love a good challenge! ;-)
You can play "Keep it Clean" Acro, which is family style or, for the
unscandalizable among us, there's "Adult" acro. It can get pretty
raunchy in the adult rooms. You've been forewarned!
This is obsessive so remember ... feed the kids first!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Featured Home Page of the Week:
Here's a little humor to get you through one of the most miserable times of the year! Dance your tax woes away and remember ... we are all moaning and groaning with you! Deb has lots of other fun pages so be sure to click on her home page button at the bottom of this one. Grab a snack first ... ;-)
