Welcome All Newcomers!
Halloween was a blast tonight! My younger daughter was a leopard and my older daughter outdid her bad self as a sweet but evil little devil.
They're sleeping off the sugar rush as I write this. ;-)
Get this ... inventor Stewart Kennedy has one-upped the already perfect kid's food. He's invented sliced peanut butter. Is this
sacrilegious? Is this going to make our kids eat more of the stuff now that they can just grab a
slice and go? Really, each slice comes
individually wrapped in plastic. You can find it next to the American cheese slices in the deli section of your supermarket. Weird visual, huh?
Let me know if you try it!
And OMG ... it's going to be Thanksgiving before you know it. Geesh ...where did yesterday go?! For a leg up on the turkey, stuffing and all
things Americana, browse my one-stop Thanksgiving page here:

Have a wonderful feast and remember the fizzy digestive aid stuff! ;-)

Reader's Comments:
Ricki wrote about our disposable camera tip from the last issue:
"Film will be ruined in high temperatures. I lost several rolls of pictures because I forgot them in my glove box in the 100 plus degree
Texas Heat. So a better idea might be to keep it in your purse if you have room."
Thank you for the reminder, Ricki!

Pam wrote:
"The reaction of the American people has made me even more proud to be an American. The country those people thought they could leave in ruins
and the people they thought they could make run away in fear have stood up in the face of their aggression and showed the world that we can
unite under one flag, one ideal, one principle. Thank God for our military and their dedication to our country and our people! God bless
them and keep them close to Him!"
Amen, Pam. :-)

"My friend Cathy has been doing quilts for all Make A Child Smile kids and she's in real need of cross-stitchers who are willing to stitch a
square (app 12x12 square with a design area of 10x10 or less) for a sick child. If you would like to help with the quilts, please send
Cathy an e-mail at LoveQuilts1999@aol.com or leave a message for her in
the category "Love Quilts To Make A Child Smile" on our Message Board: Love
Quilts"

And Canadian reader Graham wrote:
"We share your loss and your pain from the recent terrorist insanity. We know that in time, you will rise above this as a stronger community.
We recall NY Mayor Guilliani's recent comment, which we believe represents the American spirit, when he said something like: 'My
heart's been broken, but it's still beating ... and it's getting stronger.' Hang in there, USA!"
Your words bring tears to my eyes, Graham. Thank you. Graham has an excellent parenting resource,
Healthy Family Online.

Parenting & Family Topic of the Month: News From Possum Waller
The following essay was first published in News From Possum Waller, one of the many terrific sections in the Flamingo Times newsletter.
This will touch your hearts and jog your nurturing streak with a great big bang. JW wrote this piece about himself ... a memory from his own troubled childhood seen from the eyes of his trusted neighbor:
~ I looked out the window of The Times just in time to see Billy walking by with his hobo suitcase over his shoulder. I walked to the
door and whistled for him before he got too far. When he came back I asked him where he was going this time. He said he thought he would
head for Mexico ... which is a bit closer than the last time he was about to run away. (He was going to Africa, I think.) Well, since
Billy is only seven years old and has been running away since he was three, I thought we might figure out what was wrong over a Sundrop and a
pack of Nabs. Now what kid could refuse that offer?
Billy's home life wasn't the best around. This was a way for him to handle it, I think. I let him talk on for a good while until it was
getting late and I mentioned getting dark and supper time. That was all it took for him to decide to postpone his Mexico visit for a while and
he headed on home.
Just got me to thinkin' ... maybe we all should share a soft drink and some crackers with our kids once in a while. Seems to do
wonders. ~

Food & Cooking Site of the Month: Organized
Home
From our Food & Cooking Editor, Martha Jones, AKA Queen Can-ivore:
Organized home? Is this possible? Usually the experts offer about 10,000 ways to lose your mind trying to accomplish such a goal. This would be because they have never actually bothered to put their own teachings into practice. However, even though
OrganizedHome.com exists to sell books on the subject, there are plenty of free, real working tips to try. Even printable forms if that's your cuppa tea. You will also find simple family favorite recipes, intended for freezer planned cooking, but all are perfectly adaptable to one time portions. It's entirely possible after hitting on a few dishes everyone likes, you might find yourself thinking the cook once for multiple stashing idea might not be so bad after all. In some cases, instructions are only assemble ahead.
The whole site has a nice, "OK, here's the ideal way to do this or that, but we know how life really is," feel. In other words, use the suggestions that sound doable, the others will still be there if you get around to them.

Queen Can-ivore is also known as The Real Martha. Find her at TheRealMartha.com - real easy recipes for real busy, real people. Not for fans of the UnReal Martha.

Tip or Trick of the Month:
Kids & Pills
Does your child have a hard time swallowing pills? The easiest way I've found to get them down is camouflaging the dreaded pill in a teaspoon of applesauce or Jell-O. Works great!
