Welcome All Newcomers!
Rexanne's Web Review is four years-old this month. I can hardly believe I'm
still at it. You've all been a great inspiration to keep this newsletter going
and I thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Let's see if I
have another year or two left in me ...
Easter is giving us a break between holidays this year ... it's not until April
11, however, I know so many of us love to grab a head start on the festivities.
Go surfing on my Easter site: Rexanne's
Easter
And you'll find a new humor page on Rexanne.com, too. We all needed a laugh
about now, huh? :-) What Kids
Really Think of Mom
This month's web review focuses on gardening. Spring is about to pop. Be ready.
:-) Do check out our advertisers in this issue. Lots of great gardening, outdoor
decor and travel specials and if you have a budding star in your life, don't
miss our sponsor, Steve Chesney's, super book offer on breaking into show biz
the right way.
OK, onward ...

Reader's Comments:
Becky wrote about the spanking controversy and one reader's decision to
unsubscribe from RWR in last
month's newsletter:
"I was sorry to see some people leave your newsletter because of a
difference in opinion. I have used spanking in the past as a 'last resort' and I
did not get the type of outcome from my child or the situation that was needed. I have mixed feelings about the issue and am reading
all I can and looking for other forms of positive discipline. Raising our
children is one of the most important things we will do here on earth and
parents are not perfect, we will make mistakes and we need to be open to learn.
Thank you for voicing your opinion but also thank you for allowing others to
voice theirs as well. That is how we, as parents, can get both sides of the
issue and use that information to make decisions on how we shape our
children."

Jill wrote:
"I've just started to home school Emmy & Marshall. I thought that in
the weeks to come your readers may enjoy following our journey: Jill's
Home School Journal."
Good luck, Jill. We'll be rooting for you and the kids. :-)

And Daysi wrote:
"My Mom died of breast cancer at the age of 26. I was only 5 yrs old.
Please print this in your newsletter."
The US Postal Service recently released its new Fund the Cure stamp to
help fund breast cancer research. Instead of the normal 37 cents for a stamp,
this one costs 40 cents. The additional 3 cents will go to breast cancer
research.

Parenting & Family Topic of the Month:
Gardening for Kids
*Mom's Little Helper
Author Unknown
As a mother of young children, my gardening experiences have thus far fallen
short of therapeutic and inspirational. My three-year-old is a born helper and
cannot be coaxed into a nice quiet tricycle ride while
mommy weeds. Those helping little hands are pulling up green shoots faster than
I can point out which is a weed and which could have been a prize pumpkin.
My gardening days would have been over if not for a spot of great advice. The
best way to blend children with gardening is to give them a piece of earth of
their very own. I did just that. I gave each of the children a four-foot by
four-foot raised bed plot and believe me, losing the space was no sacrifice. I
am producing more vegetables now that they have a better chance of survival and
I have two satisfied children. (In mommy speak that translates to quietly
content.)
The best part is that in my desperate need to occupy them elsewhere, I may be
doing something beneficial for them. The National Science Teachers association
says that families who explore the world together nurture scientific thinkers
and good students. I can't promise you that, but I have certainly seen the
thinking process challenged in my children. The curious questions are endless,
the astute observations have at times astounded me and the sense of pride in
accomplishment has given them more than any book instruction they will get. Give
up a little piece of the earth and you may just be giving your children the
world.
A word of warning-you may just get as much out of it as they do.
