A word about the Tooth Fairy and Baby Teeth:
Baby teeth begin to erupt at anywhere from 7 months to 1 and a half years of age. Children typically begin to shed those baby teeth at or around age 6 or 7, although this isn't to say that your child's tooth fairy visits won't be sooner or later than average. . The bottom front teeth are usually the first to loosen and fall out, followed by the top front teeth.
A visit from the Tooth Fairy is a big event in a child's life. I'm not sure how the myth of the Tooth Fairy began but it's a sweet and harmless fantasy that parents have maintained for years. A child typically puts their personal Tooth Fairy pillow under their own pillow the night they lose their baby tooth and when the child wakes up in the morning, the Tooth Fairy has swooped in to leave a reward in his/her Tooth Fairy pillow for that hard-earned lost tooth.
How much money does the Tooth Fairy leave? What's the going rate for a baby tooth in our 21st century culture? I think it depends on your neighborhood. :-) Since my older daughter lost her first baby tooth until my younger daughter lost her last baby tooth, the going rate in our neighborhood was and still is a dollar. When I was a child, the going rate was 25 cents - inflation hits the Tooth Fairy just as hard as it hits us. :-)
By all means, ask other parents what the Tooth Fairy is leaving for their children's baby teeth and plan accordingly. We don't want one child feeling that his/her teeth aren't as valuable as his/her peers!
You will find the perfect Tooth Fairy pillow or holder for your child on this page. There are so many darling choices and I'm sure your child will love any Tooth Fairy pillow you choose. Tooth Fairy pillows or Tooth Fairy boxes are ideal baby or early birthday/holiday gifts and work especially well as Christmas stocking stuffers, Hanukah gifts and Easter basket fillers for babies and any child under 7 who has just begun to lose their baby teeth or hasn't yet lost most of his/her baby teeth.
There is also a good collection of Tooth Fairy books on this page. Books are a great way to teach your child about special events and how things work. Somehow, if a child sees it in a book, it makes it all more real. :-) Tooth Fairy books also are a good way to encourage your child's love of reading. :-)
