a place to stash their stuff, from day one until they grow out of the
"toy" stage. Uhmmm ... that might be longer than you think. An older
child or teen will use their treasured old toy chest to store countless collections of

Always buy the best you can afford and you won't have to replace a broken, beat up piece of furniture that cannot withstand the rigors of childhood. I learned this the hard way ... the "inexpensive" wall unit and dresser we bought for our daughters' room both fell apart within 5 years. The expensive dresser that was given to my older daughter by her grandmother when she was born is still standing, the drawers still glide perfectly and it has withstood endless abuse for more than 18 years. I've sworn never to buy a "cheap" piece of furniture again. ;-) Also consider that your child's toy box or bench can be used for many more years as a keepsake storage space, one your child can take to his/her own home when the time comes.
